Illowra are proud to work closely with participants and their families to develop new co-designed homes to meet specific needs. Recently we celebrated a housewarming party for Nic, Luke and Marty with over seventy family, friends and guests in Taylors Lakes. These three friends had been living at home with their families but wanted to move out together and gain their independence. Just before Christmas their wish came true as they moved into their own beautiful custom designed accessible home in Taylors Lakes, and they couldn't be happier.
Owen Jourdian, Illowra's Managing Director explained the philosophy of putting the participant and their families at the forefront of not only the design of their new home but also in control of who they share with and who provides support. These simple principals of residents being in control are surprisingly not as common as you would expect.
During the celebration it was wonderful to hear from the residents and their families how the new home was changing their lives. Heartfelt thanks was extended from families to the Illowra team and the very large number of stakeholders involved who worked tirelessly to deliver this new home.
Colin Roberston representing Minister Brendan O'Connor thanked everyone involved and reflected on the significant achievement to deliver a complex build and how he hoped to see many more.
A big thank-you went out to Illowra partners, Synergis Fund who funded the project and also Harnest builders who constructed the new home. Synergis Fund was established specifically to fund SDA projects like this one and representative Jason Walter explained how delighted he was that Synergis had provided a long term home for the three friends. Glenn Crawford, representing Harnest explained how this home was their first SDA property and a milestone for their organisation. Many of the Harnest team were present at the event and were able to see first hand what they had all achieved.
Following formal presentations everyone enjoyed refreshments and being shown around the new home by the proud residents,
